Renew environmental awareness daily
The fact that I have to sharpen my environmental awareness every day makes me think. Why is it so difficult to reorganize regular processes in my view of the environment? Man is just a habit animal.
But at least I realize that I’m making mistakes. It starts with brushing my teeth in the morning. I turn on the water to moisten the toothbrush and let it run until I’m done. What a waste! As much as 7 liters of water just flow into the drain. But since I know that by 2050 more people from Wassernot will be leaving their country than today for fear of war and persecution, I have put an end to this bad habit. This message has sensitized my environmental awareness.
At Planet Wissen you can read that in Germany per day / person 123 l of drinking water are consumed. Thanks to our efficient water cycle, compared to other EU countries, this is comparatively little but still a huge amount, considering how much of it is wasted. Take care. Whether washing dishes, showering or brushing your teeth – the water runs much longer than necessary.
Water is the basis of existence
Water is the basis of existence for all life on this planet. More than two-thirds of its surface is covered with water, but only a tiny fraction of it can be used by humans. Useful, clean water is getting scarcer. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2012 around 783 million people did not have sufficient access to clean drinking water.
In any case, the handling of water can not be called sustainable. The straightening of rivers hurts the ecosystem enormously. Also, the ability to pump water through man-made piping systems and thereby use dry soils as arable land has harmed nature extensively. Both the Aral Sea and the Dead Sea, from whose tributaries water is drained, are gradually drying up. Source: Planet Knowledge
Of course, we do not have any of the water from the Aral Sea or the Dead Sea – but if you read that 1/3 of the world’s largest groundwater reserves are acutely endangered, you should at least start thinking …
